Sharath Ranganswamy
A native of Mysore, South India, R. Sharath Jois was born into the Ashtanga Yoga legacy and quickly proved he had deep dedication and discipline for the practice. As the son of yogi Saraswathi Rangaswamy and grandson of her father, Ashtanga Yoga Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, he was introduced to yoga at an early age, learning postures by the time he was seven and establishing a dedicated yoga practice by the age of 17. By 19, he began teaching alongside his grandfather and continued to do so for the next 16 years before taking over as the primary teacher at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. Today he is the most advanced asana practitioner in the world as well as the only student of Pattabhi Jois to have mastered all five series. Sharath's lifelong dedication and intimate knowledge of authentic Ashtanga Yoga and his skill for connecting the ancient practice with contemporary lifestyle for enthusiasts and practitioners worldwide made him the family member appointed by his grandfather to carry on his authentic legacy and teachings, Sharath is now the Director of the Ashtanga Yoga Institute, where he continues to teach the Mysore method, Guruji's teachings.

"Students should have faith in their guru and the yoga practice, then only the jnana [knowledge] will flow to us." -- R. Sharath
