®Universal Yoga was founded by Andrey Lappa, who is one of the most influential professional yoga masters of our time. As a Ukrainian living behind the iron curtain, his talents and accomplishments only became widely known during the post-Soviet era. Andrey has spent his entire life traveling in the Far East. He began his primary Buddhist education at the age of 11 in Ulan-Bator, Mongolia at a Buddhist monastery. Andrey later developed his skills by studying extensively with world-renowned teachers Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, BKS Iyengar, and many other lesser known, but equally knowledgeable, rigorous teachers. Andrey has also studied Kalari-Payatu (Indian martial arts) and Ziong-Shing (Vietnamese yoga). After devoting his life to exploring the most esoteric and spiritually challenging practices of yoga in Hindu ashrams and Buddhist monasteries, Andrey developed the powerful and effective system of ®Universal Yoga. Andrey is also the devoted keeper of the ancient tradition of Dance of Shiva (Shiva Nata).
Andrey Lappa has produced 8 DVD's, 2 books, 8 posters and 5 computer yoga-training programs for the in-depth study of the ®Universal Yoga system and Dance of Shiva. Andrey conducts workshops & teacher trainings in the US, Europe and Asia. When not traveling or teaching, Andrey lives in the Buddhist Monastery in Katmandu, Nepal, under the guidance of Ven. Rimpoche Choje Lama Phuntsok.
