Alanna Kaivalya
Alanna Kaivalya is an artistic and inspiring teacher of yoga. Born with a hearing impairment, Alanna learned through the power of vibration at a young age, and was then naturally drawn to the harmonic practice of yoga. Listed as Yoga Journal's top 21 Yoga Teachers Under 40 (March, 2008), and now with more than a decade of teaching experience, she has developed a teaching style that is a unique combination of her spirit, her knowledge, and of course the teachers who have influenced her along the path.

Alanna's first book, Myths of the Asanas, was released in Spring 2010 by Mandala Publishing. Myths of the Asanas has received praise from yogis and non-yogis alike, and has become a guide for both practitioners and teachers to learn more about mythology and philosophy in a fun and accessible way.

Alanna has been leading and working with teacher training programs around the world since 2004. She is the yoga philosophy instructor at several trainings including Moksha Yoga (Canada), Radiantly Alive (Bali), and Flow Yoga in Washington D.C. In addition, she has been leadingadjustment workshops around the world for 6 years, and is renowned for her deep and precise adjustments. Alanna also leads Kirtans, she has performed at Yoga Journal Conferences around the country, and she always brings live music into the studio when she teaches, serenading her students into shavasana. Her podcasts have been enjoyed by over a million yogis world-wide and she loves to be able to share her teachings this way for those who cannot make it to her live classes and workshops.

As if leading workshops, turning students into teachers, and making music weren't enough to keep her busy, Alanna leads retreats and workshops all over the globe along with teaching regular classes in New York City. In addition to making her classes available through live podcasts, she has produced her own album (Shine) which is available on iTunes.

Alanna Kaivalya, has a mission: to convey a sense of joy and freedom through harmony and synchronicity, which she does beautifully through her classes, workshops, writing, and music. Alanna is known for her ability to translate the ancient practice of yoga into a modern day context.
