Led Primary Series Class with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois FULL
This class will be taught in the traditional count-through style with the appropriate
number of Vinyasas for each posture. Sri K. Pattabhi Jois was first taught this
method of Yoga from T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1930s in Mysore and has since made
preserving this style of Yoga his life work. At the AYRI (Ashtanga Yoga Research
Institute) in Mysore he gradually takes students through the numerous postures and
sequences this practice is famous for, but whenever he tours around the world he
usually only teaches Primary Series – definitely more than a handful for most 'normal'
practitioners.
This Primary Series, also known as Yoga Chikittsa, Yoga therapy, seeks to
develop a healthy body/mind/nervous system for the practitioner and instil a
solid foundation to receive Yoga's infinite beauty.
This class is not suited for complete beginners, but rather for those with some
previous exposure to the Ashtanga Yoga method.

Kirtan with Krishna Das / Trance Dance with Shiva Rea
Elevate your mind, relax your body and open your heart in an evening kirtan
with Krishna Das. This kirtan is followed by Trance Dance.
Yoga Trance Dance™ is an exploration of the eternal flow of natural movement through yoga.
Beginning with sahaja prana yoga or the experience of prana initiating yogasanas, yoga trance
dance flows into an exploration of free-form, breath-driven movement to liberate one's creative
life-force and cultivate embodied freedom.
Dance and yoga, particularly hatha yoga, are ways of calling us back into our bodies to irrigate
our being with life energy known in yoga as 'prana.' Prana is the animating force – the energy
of being alive – and is most clearly felt through breathing. From the yogic view, the great
breath flowing through us all is intelligence or consciousness itself. With flow yoga, we let
the intelligence of our breath lead movement the way a sailor tacks with the wind. Trance
dance has a similar focus. Rather than emphasising an outward performance, the goal of trance
dancing is to let your creative energy move through you, to be guided by spirit (or 'spiritus,'
which is the Latin root for inspiration – the place where life breath and enlivening creativity
meet). Thus, in yoga trance dance – form serves spirit, structure supports intuition, yoga
prepares you for free-form dance, and your dance opens your being for a greater experience of
the unified self that is yoga.

Led Primary Series class with Sharath Rangaswamy
Come and experience the traditional practice of Ashtanga Yoga. Sharath Rangaswamy will
guide you slowly and steadily through the whole Primary Series. This practice has a
particular sequence of breath and movement called Vinyasa that integrates the two together
in a steady flow of practice. This ancient practice is a little more challenging than other
styles of Yoga, but is guaranteed to awaken greater health and wellbeing for all of its
practitioners.
Sharath Rangaswamy will teach the Primary Series class in the same way as he has been
taught by his grandfather Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The class will follow the traditional
sequence of breath and movement seeking to awaken a gradual experience of Yoga in its
practitioners. Sharath, who has assisted his grandfather for almost 20 years and is
also the Assistant Director of the AYRI (Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute) in Mysore,
is also one of the most advanced Yoga practitioners in the world. You can be certain
that this class will be taught in a conventional manner and according to tradition.
Don't miss this great opportunity to experience Yoga from the source, the living
caretakers of the Ashtanga Yoga tradition. |
